thanx alexander, I hope I will get this controller finally today working.
I think I have installed the medley drivers, because in the system manager the card is detected as raid ide controller......and in this description there is the word medley too

So your pc will boot with your optical drives connected to your raid controller? I thought this was your problem?

no this is my problem, the pc won't boot if my optical drives are connected to the RAID Card. so can you look into your bios and find out where the entry is?

            @dr. art

First, sorry for my late reply. But I was very busy in the office the last days (programming a task for a collegue of me). So here is my quick answer:

On my Award Bios I must select

            Advanced Bios Features

first. Then there is an option which is called

            ATA RAID or SCSI boot

I have to select SCSI, otherwise my pc will not boot.

Of course you have to install the Medly drivers to access your optical drives in Windows (I'm using Win2000 SP4).

Please check this and reply. Perhaps you can post your bios version? If you don't have an Award bios I can search for your bios options?

            Greetings
            Alexander

ok, I've got an Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG

I entered the Advande BIOS Features, but couldn't find such entry. the only one, which had to do something with RAID, was this entry :

              Bootable ADD-in Device

              there I could select:
              -PCI Slot Device
-Onchip SATA RAID (Onchip means VIA)

It's selected to PCI Slot Device, but it won't boot.

Did you also try onboard SATA RAID?

hm that's stupid, now I've got the card and no use for it. is it better to hang my harddrives on the RAID Card?

                            - What was your original configuration ?
                            Maybe it's just jumper settings.
                            - In BIOS: Is/was IDE drive detection set to AUTO, or did you have custom settings for faster Boot Up ?

What was drive configuration before you plugged your PCI controller ?
Your 2 hardrives always shared an IDE-Port ? There were no master/slave changes ? That's why i mentioned jumper settings.
