It is used when you start the installation but then abort and cancel it. Installer needs to remove changes it has made.

ookey... so it is like going backwards, step by step to 'point zero'...

is it used only when removing the application? maybe in updating process?

(knowing this would help to translate it 'smoothly' and more 'understandable' - I hope... ; I mean I can replace the word, but still nobody gets the meaning...)

"Rollback installation:" would be a prefix displayed before operation of rollback to track its progress.
    e.g.
    Rollback installation: deleting daemon.exe
    Rollback installation: removing registry keys

Pardon my slight ignorance in terminology:
is this 'Rollback installation' same as 'installing an earlier version' instead of current new one? (like getting the old one back)

Does it mean "unable to make image, one time failure" or "unable to make image, by design"?
